‘..the 8th Choreography Festival served to bring some freshness into Indian classical dance scene’
‘The festival kicked off with Mohiniyattam by Chennai–based Neena Prasad who runs Sougandhika Centre for Mohiniyattam in the City. ‘Sitaayanam’‚ her group choreographic composition ‚ dwelt on Sita’s self–examination in retrospection – the saga of a woman whose entire life was an ordeal. Although the theme‚ an episode from the Ramayan‚ has often been dealt with in dance‚ the freshness of the treatment was appealing for its lyrics both in Tamil and Malayalam‚ music drawn extensively from the rich folk and ritual music heritage of Kerala juxtaposed with classical ragas by music composer and vocalist Madhavan Nampoothiri besides Neena’s intelligent scene structures with varied paces and rhythmic patterns.’
